Triceps Extension

These notes combine advice from 10 reviewed passages across 7 workouts.

The triceps extension is a strength movement used to train the triceps. It may spread the work more broadly across the arm than a triceps push, which emphasizes the triceps more directly. Stable elbow positioning is a central technical demand in both band and overhead versions. [3] [4] [5] [6] [8] [9]

Band setups vary. In one version, adjust the band position and pull downward. In the bar setup, pass the band through the bar and move from above down to chest height. [1] [3]

When weights are unavailable, use a resistance band for bilateral triceps work. Keep the elbows fixed as the band lowers. [4] [5] [6] [8]

Learn the overhead extension with both arms before progressing to its usual single-arm form. This allows both arms to practice the movement pattern together. [4]

A single-dumbbell extension can make lighter loads comfortable to use. [7]
