L-sit Pull-up
These notes combine advice from 13 reviewed passages across 13 workouts.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”An L-sit pull-up is performed while maintaining the L-sit through the entire pull-up. A repetition counts only when the L-sit remains unbroken. [4]
The movement was treated as high-priority strength work, comparable in importance to the bar press. Controlled L-sit pull-ups were also used as preparation for the slow muscle-up. [1] [5]
Body position and pull path
Section titled “Body position and pull path”Stay upright and avoid swinging. Pull vertically from beneath the bar rather than allowing the body to follow a curved path toward it. During dynamic repetitions, keep bringing the body close to the bars through both the ascent and descent. [2] [8] [10]
Hold the legs at the intended lifted angle while rising and lowering. Do not let them drop and then repair the position later. Keep the feet pointed and close to the body while moving through the right-angle position. [6] [10]
Grip and range of motion
Section titled “Grip and range of motion”When the exercise is preparing the slow muscle-up, use a false grip, aim for the 90-degree position, move slowly, and complete the full opening and closing range. [5]
A full false grip is not required for every version. When the main focus is the L-sit, a slightly inward grip may be sufficient. [9]
Variations
Section titled “Variations”On parallel bars, one sequence uses a centered grip followed by one L-sit pull-up, a transition into candle pose, and a descent before the next repetition. The knees may bend while entering the pose. [3]
A floor-based variation prevents the legs from opening far without the feet touching the floor. This constraint increases the demand of maintaining the L-sit. [11]
Programming observations
Section titled “Programming observations”In one session that already contained substantial handstand work, the following bar segment was kept short and consisted of ten L-sit pull-ups. [7]
