Archer Pull-up

These notes combine advice from 8 reviewed passages across 5 workouts.

The Archer pull-up is an extended-pull variation. The body travels toward one side while the opposite arm lengthens, requiring control of the side-to-side shift while suspended. [1] [6]

Terminology varies. Some instruction uses Archer and typewriter for the extending side pull. Elsewhere, typewriter means moving the chin left and right before returning to center and descending, without extending either arm. [1] [8]

Use a somewhat wider grip for the coached chin-height version and pull to chin height. As one hand extends, move toward the opposite side, maintain a light push from above, and aim for a fluid path. [1] [6]

The extending arm can reach quite far without touching down. For paired repetitions, complete two consecutive pulls toward one side and then two toward the other while keeping the feet off the ground. [2] [7]

Changing an ordinary pull to a diagonal direction creates a modified pull. That direction change alone remains distinct from the fuller side position of the Archer. [5]

A fixed bar and rings can change the difficulty in different ways. The fixed bar requires the body weight to travel over a stable support, while rings distribute the load differently. Rings were described as potentially harder for an experienced Archer performer yet easier for someone learning the movement. [3]
