Reverse Crunch
These notes combine advice from 10 reviewed passages across 9 workouts.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The reverse crunch is a controlled abdominal movement in which the feet travel toward the torso while the upper body stays in place. Fixed hands provide balance, and slow abdominal effort prevents the repetition from becoming an uncontrolled leg swing. [2] [3] [8]
The source terminology also uses reverse sit-up for a separate back-focused movement that lifts the upper body. Its technique and intended training effect differ from the leg-drawing reverse crunch. [5] [6] [7]
Technique
Section titled “Technique”Set the hands in a stable position and keep them tense enough to support balance. Hold the upper body still, then pull the feet toward the body slowly while maintaining abdominal effort throughout the motion. [2] [3] [8]
Back-focused naming distinction
Section titled “Back-focused naming distinction”In the separate back-focused variation, place the hands at the waist, lift the upper body through a large range from the bottom to the top, and keep the chin and gaze directed toward the ceiling. This variation was used to condition the lower back with intended carryover to more comfortable back-lever holds and foot raising. These upper-body-lifting cues should not be transferred to the leg-drawing reverse crunch. [5] [6] [7]
